Getting to Fort Carson

Entering Fort Carson: Fort Carson is not an open post. If you are entering in your privately-owned vehicle which has not been registered, you must enter through the Main Gate (Gate 1). All incoming soldiers and civilian personnel are required to permanently register their vehicles, including motorcycles. To enter Fort Carson, you must have a valid drivers license, vehicle registration, proof of insurance and valid photographic identification. To permanently register your vehicle, you will also have to have to pass a Colorado emissions inspection. For more information on vehicle registration, during normal duty hours (0830 -1630 M-F) please call (719) 524-1896. After duty hours, please call the MP desk at (719) 526-2333. Please contact your unit or vehicle registration prior to arrival as policies are subject to change.

Traveling to Fort Carson:Fort Carson is located on the front range of the Rocky Mountains and is 60 miles South of Denver on Interstate 25 at Exit #135. The post is nestled in the extreme Southwest corner of Colorado Springs, beneath and in the shade of Cheyenne Mountain. You can also enter the post from State Highway 115 (Nevada Avenue).

Base Access for Fort Carson: Fort Carson is a 'closed' post. In order to gain access to the post, all new arrivals should report to Gate #1 on Highway 115 for a vehicle pass or to register your vehicle on post. Your current driver's license, proof of insurance, and vehicle registration information/papers will be needed.

Air Transportation to Fort Carson: Colorado Springs Airport is currently served by 8 airline carriers and is located about 10 miles from Fort Carson. The Armed Forces YMCA Booth, located near baggage claim area #4, is available for assistance. Military transportation is available 24 hours a day by calling 1-800-279-1151.

Commercial Bus Transportation to Fort Carson: The Greyhound bus terminal is located at 120 S. Weber Street. For fare information, call the Greyhound terminal at 719-635-1505.

Taxi Service to Fort Carson: Civilian taxi service is available from a variety of local companies. Fare for trips from Fort Carson to downtown Colorado springs is approximately $10; to the airport is approximately $15.

Driving Directions from the Colorado Springs Airport: The Colorado Springs Airport is located North and East of Fort Carson. Follow the Airport road exit which turns into Drennan Road and follow it heading west until you reach Academy Blvd. Turn left. Academy Blvd will curve back to the right and Cheyenne Mountian will be directly in front of you. Pass the exit for Fort Carson Gate #4 at B-Street, continue west towards the mountains. Take the State Highway 115, exit south towards Canon City. Pass the Fort Carson Gate #2 exit. After about 2 miles, Fort Carson Gate #1 will be on the left. Follow the brown signs to the In-processing/Welcome Center or Colorado Inn (billeting).

REPORTING

Signing in. If you arrive between 0700 and 1500 on duty days, you will report in uniform to the In and Out Processing section at building 1218 to sign in off of leave and initiate in-processing. You will then proceed to building 1013, where CQ personnel will issue you a barracks room if necessary and ensure you have the paperwork and information to begin in-processing the next duty day. If you arrive during non-duty hours, it is not necessary to report in uniform. You will report to building 1013, where CQ personnel will sign you in off of leave, issue you a barracks room if necessary, and ensure you have the paperwork and information to begin in-processing the next duty day.

Billeting. If you have dependents or are a Staff Sergeant (promotable) or above, you must arrange for your own lodging. Rooms may be available at the Colorado Inn on Fort Carson (719-526-4832). If the Colorado Inn is not available, you must make arrangements with off-post lodging.

If you are a non-promotable Staff Sergeant or below and you do not have dependents, you are required to live in the Replacement Detachment barracks. If you are in this category, please do not make any other lodging arrangements without first contacting CQ at 719-526-6961!

If you are a DA civilian, report to the Civilian Personnel Advisory Center, building 1550, at 0730 on the first day of your employment.

INPROCESSING

All incoming personnel should report to the United States Army Replacement Detachment, building 1013. You will receive an inprocessing appointment after signing in. Personnel will be affiliated with the Replacement Detachment for a four-day in-processing schedule before being released to their unit. Be sure to have your dental, medical, finance, and personnel records, orders and a DA 31 (leave form). If your finance records are in order, you will normally be paid your travel time entitlements within five days of your first day of inprocessing.

RELOCATION ASSISTANCE

The Army Community Services (ACS) Family Connection Center is located in Building 1354.
